PHP Developer

Bath, England, United Kingdom expand job description ↓

Description

Will you join a small group of people who build digital products with a common goal; to make the world a better place?

We are always incubating a number of our own start-ups. We also build client platforms with the same love and energy we afford our own.

You will be expected to join a team where everyone has equal opportunity to influence the development of our systems. We value diversity in our thinking as much as we do in the make-up of our team.

You have your expertise but we also encourage continuous learning and cross-skilling. If our designer wants to learn how to code native apps then they can (true story).

Are you a problem-solver who is passionate about your work? Do you want a child and dog friendly environment with flexible hours and the ability to work remotely? We are the team for you.

You will need to use your initiative to get involved in the breadth of projects we have to offer. Your personal improvement will come from embracing the potential of working together as a tight team.

Do you have the drive to test your coding skills? If you're tackling real world problems, that will lead to a phenomenal and empowering work/life balance.

Projects:

By joining the team you will get to work with governments, small businesses and charities. You will improve the performance of our international aid. You will help young offenders. You will ensure we deliver our lead incubation project which deploys machine learning in the fight against news bias, sensationalist headlines.

You might also wish to contribute to the awesome Digital Festival we run in Bath each year.

Spirit framework:

Spirit is our Open Source PHP framework. It is our central product. Spirit allows you to focus on business logic - so you will invest time and passion making this an efficient and powerful framework.

Requirements

  • Coding: You should have commercial experience coding in PHP.
  • Database: A grasp of relational databases, such as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Front-end: Some exposure to native JavaScript is helpful.
  • Version control: Working knowledge of Git and CI/CD is also helpful

Benefits

You would join our team to learn and grow every single day. We encourage personal and professional development as well as a relaxed working environment.

You will receive private medical care, a health cash plan, matched pension and a cheeky drink or two on a Friday afternoon as we reflect and review our current projects.

Deep Blue Sky is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

Most importantly, we recognise that a good work/life balance is an integral part of life. You will therefore be able to set your hours and remote work some days. You will also receive a generous holiday allowance so that you get the downtime you deserve.
